BOOK A CONSULTATIONA compact natural basalt column combining carved and polished surfaces to create changing water movement across a genuinely individual piece of stone.
Standing approximately 50cm high and around 15–20cm across, this Caldera brings vertical water movement into a more compact format than the larger 70cm version.
Water bubbles gently from the top before flowing down the basalt. Smoother polished areas encourage a cleaner cascade, while the carved sections interrupt the flow and create additional texture, rippling and movement.
Every feature is formed from natural basalt, so subtle variations in shape, size, surface character and colour make each individual column unique.
The 50cm version retains the changing textures and water movement of the larger carved basalt column while being easier to integrate into smaller borders, patios and courtyard spaces.
Variations in natural form, colouring and mineral texture give every basalt column its own individual appearance.
Alternating finishes create visual contrast and change the behaviour of the water as it travels down the stone.
A useful size where you want upright natural stone and visible water movement without the stronger scale of the 70cm version.
Water is pumped internally through the basalt before bubbling gently from the top of the feature.
As it begins to cascade, polished areas encourage smoother, more continuous movement while the carved sections break the water into smaller streams and ripples.
Rather than creating a perfectly uniform curtain, the natural stone produces a more organic flow that changes around the column.
The smoother areas reveal more of the basalt's natural colour and allow water to travel in a thinner, cleaner layer with stronger reflections.
The more deeply textured areas catch the water and redirect it, creating additional rippling, shadows and changing highlights.
At approximately 50cm high, this Caldera sits between lower natural basalt boulders and the taller 70cm carved column.
Its naturally varying width of around 15–20cm keeps the footprint relatively small while preserving the irregular appearance of genuine stone.
Basalt naturally displays charcoal, black and earthy brown tones, with individual mineral and surface variations running through each piece.
Carving and polishing selected areas exaggerates those differences, introducing both rugged texture and smoother reflective stone into the same feature.
Once the water begins to flow, the darker colours become noticeably richer and the different finishes become easier to distinguish.
Exact width, shape, colouring, surface markings and texture vary from stone to stone. The stated dimensions are approximate because this is genuine natural basalt rather than a moulded product.
The 50cm format makes this version easier to position within smaller planted borders, gravel areas and patios while still giving enough height for the moving water to remain clearly visible.
Its dark natural colouring provides strong contrast with green planting, while the irregular stone prevents the feature from appearing overly formal.
Use it individually as a compact focal point or combine it with other basalt pieces to create a larger natural stone composition.
The supplied 66cm diameter heavy-duty pebble pool installs below the finished surface, keeping the working water system hidden beneath the landscape.
Select a firm, level location with suitable access for the supplied water pump.
Prepare the opening required for the supplied 66cm diameter heavy-duty pebble pool.
Install the reservoir securely and ensure it sits level below the finished landscape surface.
Position the suitable pump within the reservoir and connect the water feed to the basalt column.
Ensure the support area is firm and suitable for the solid natural stone feature.
Carefully centre and level the natural stone above the concealed reservoir.
Conceal the reservoir with decorative pebbles while retaining suitable access for pump maintenance.
Fill the reservoir and start the pump. Water bubbles from the top before flowing across the carved and polished stone.
Decorative pebbles are available separately, allowing the reservoir to be concealed beneath a finish chosen to complement the basalt and surrounding landscape.
The basalt shows softer charcoal, black and brown tones, with polished and carved areas distinguished by their contrasting surface textures.
The stone becomes noticeably darker. Polished areas develop more sheen while carved sections create stronger shadows, highlights and broken water movement.
