Caldera Rainbow Sandstone 50cm Column Water Feature

A compact architectural column carved from solid Indian rainbow sandstone, combining natural colour, vertical water movement and integrated lighting in a relatively small footprint.

Standing approximately 50cm high and 20cm in diameter, this Caldera is designed for gardens where you want clear vertical presence without the scale of the taller 70cm sandstone column.

Water bubbles from the top before flowing over the smooth sandstone surface and travelling down the full height of the feature into the concealed reservoir below.

Once wet, the stone changes considerably in character, with softer dry tones developing into richer oranges, reds, browns and purples. An integrated LED light illuminates the top water effect after dark.

The 50cm sandstone Caldera is designed for spaces where the taller column could feel too dominant, while still providing a strong upright silhouette and full-length flowing water effect.

The Caldera water effect

A compact column covered in moving water.

Water is pumped internally through the sandstone and emerges gently at the top of the feature.

It spreads over the upper surface before flowing around the edge and travelling down the smooth stone exterior.

The water creates a thin shimmering layer across the sandstone, intensifying its natural colour before falling into the concealed reservoir and being continuously recirculated.

Gentle top bubble Water emerges quietly through the centre of the column.

360° surface flow Water spreads over the upper stone and around the perimeter.

Full-height cascade Flowing water travels down the 50cm sandstone surface.

Concealed return Water falls into the reservoir below and is continuously reused.

Compact Caldera proportions

More height than a bowl without becoming a dominant garden structure.

The simple cylindrical column form gives the Caldera a cleaner and more architectural appearance than a carved twist or irregular natural stone feature.

At approximately 50cm high and 20cm across, the proportions are compact enough for smaller gardens while retaining enough stone surface for a clearly visible vertical water effect.

Solid Indian rainbow sandstone

Natural banding made more dramatic by flowing water.

Rainbow sandstone is naturally layered, with colours and mineral markings formed within the stone itself.

When dry, the surface can appear relatively soft and pastel. Once wet, the colouring becomes much stronger, revealing richer orange, red, brown and purple tones.

Because the stone is natural, the exact position and strength of those layers will vary from one Caldera column to another.

Every column is individual

Exact colour, mineral banding, surface markings, weight and subtle dimensions can vary naturally between pieces. These differences are part of the character of genuine stone.

Integrated LED lighting

Designed to remain a focal point after sunset.

By day

Natural daylight and flowing water reveal the individual layers within the sandstone, with the wet surface appearing noticeably deeper and more saturated than the dry stone.

After dark

The integrated LED illuminates the bubbling water at the top, creating a brighter focal point before the water continues down the darker stone surface.

Designed for smaller spaces

Architectural water movement without a large footprint.

The 50cm Caldera is particularly useful where there is not enough space for a larger sphere, bowl or taller statement column.

Its narrow footprint makes it easy to position within a planted border, beside a patio, within gravel or as a focal point in a smaller courtyard.

The warm natural sandstone also softens the clean cylindrical form, allowing it to sit comfortably within both contemporary and more traditional landscapes.

Concealed in-ground installation

Hide the reservoir and keep the sandstone column as the focal point.

The supplied 66cm diameter heavy-duty pebble pool is installed below the finished garden surface, allowing the column to appear to rise directly from the surrounding landscape.

Choose the position

Select a firm, level area with access to a suitable outdoor electrical supply.

Excavate

Prepare an opening for the supplied 66cm diameter heavy-duty pebble pool.

Level the reservoir

Install the reservoir securely and ensure it is level below the finished garden surface.

Install the pump

Position the supplied mains-powered pump inside the reservoir and connect it to the column.

Prepare the support

Ensure the support area is stable and suitable for the approximately 60kg natural stone column.

Position the column

Carefully centre and level the 50cm sandstone column over the concealed reservoir.

Finish the surface

Conceal the reservoir with decorative pebbles while retaining suitable access for pump maintenance.

Fill & enjoy

Fill the reservoir and switch on the pump. Water rises through the column and flows back into the hidden pool below.

No permanent water supply required Caldera uses a self-contained recirculating system, so no permanent plumbing connection is required. The included pump is mains powered. Simply top up the reservoir periodically to replace water naturally lost through evaporation and splash.
