Miren Large Basalt Slab & Plinth Water Feature

A substantial natural basalt water feature combining a broad polished slab with a matching solid-stone plinth.

Measuring approximately 65–70cm across and around 16cm high overall, the Miren Large Slab & Plinth creates a strong natural focal point while retaining a low, contemporary profile.

Water bubbles gently from the centre of the polished upper surface before spreading across the broad basalt slab and cascading over its naturally rugged edges.

The solid basalt plinth raises the slab above the surrounding pebble area, increasing the visible drop of the water and creating a more noticeable, relaxing trickling sound.

As the basalt becomes wet, its natural charcoal, black and subtle brown tones deepen considerably, creating a striking contrast between the smooth polished surface and rugged natural edge.

The larger slab gives the water more surface area to travel across, while the solid basalt plinth adds height, visibility and greater presence within the surrounding garden.

The additional water drop creates a stronger but still relaxing trickling sound as the cascades return to the hidden reservoir.

A broad surface of moving water with a greater natural drop.

The solid basalt plinth is an important part of the design. By raising the slab above the surrounding pebble area, it creates more space beneath the irregular outer edge.

Water bubbles onto the centre of the slab and spreads across the polished upper surface before separating into individual streams around the natural perimeter.

The raised position makes these cascades easier to see and allows the falling water to create a more noticeable trickling sound before returning to the reservoir below.

Genuine natural basalt

Natural stone that changes dramatically when wet.

Basalt is a dense volcanic stone with naturally occurring variations in colour, markings, texture and shape.

When dry, the stone displays softer grey, charcoal and brown tones. Once water begins flowing, the basalt becomes considerably darker and richer, bringing out details that can be far less noticeable when the stone is dry.

The polished upper surface creates a strong contrast against the naturally rugged edge, while the broad slab provides plenty of surface area for moving water and changing reflections.

Every Miren is unique

Each slab and plinth is created from genuine natural basalt. Exact dimensions, shape, markings, edge profile and colour will vary slightly from one feature to another.

Seamless in-ground installation

Conceal the working parts beneath the finished garden.

The supplied 90cm heavy-duty reservoir is buried below ground, leaving only the natural basalt slab, matching plinth and your chosen decorative finish visible.

Prepare

Choose a firm, level position with access to a suitable outdoor electrical supply.

Excavate

Dig a suitable hole for the supplied 90cm heavy-duty reservoir.

Position

Install the reservoir securely and level, with its upper edge slightly above the surrounding soil level.

Install the pump

Position the pump inside the reservoir and connect the hose through the drilled basalt plinth.

Fit the grid

Position the supplied 90cm heavy-duty galvanised steel support grid securely over the reservoir.

Position the plinth

Place the natural basalt plinth centrally over the supported section of the grid.

Position the slab

Carefully place the large natural basalt slab onto the plinth and connect the water supply.

Add the lighting

Position the supplied LED light to illuminate the bubbling water and wet basalt surface.

Finish

Cover the visible grid with decorative pebbles while retaining access through the maintenance hatch.

Fill & enjoy

Fill the reservoir and switch on the pump. Water spreads across the slab and cascades back into the concealed reservoir.

Despite its size, the relatively low overall height allows it to sit comfortably amongst surrounding planting rather than appearing overly formal or dominating the landscape.
