BOOK A CONSULTATIONA compact natural basalt water feature combining a broad polished slab with a raised solid-stone plinth.
At approximately 45–50cm across and 21cm high overall, the Miren Slab & Plinth delivers the character of genuine volcanic stone in a compact format that works particularly well on patios, within planted borders and smaller landscaped spaces.
Water bubbles gently from the centre of the polished upper surface before spreading across the slab and cascading over its naturally rugged edges. The raised basalt plinth lifts the slab above the surrounding pebble area, making the falling water easier to see and creating a more noticeable trickling sound.
As the basalt becomes wet, its charcoal, black and subtle brown tones deepen considerably, bringing out natural detail that can be less visible when the stone is dry.
The broad slab gives the water room to spread, while the raised plinth creates a more visible cascade without requiring a large footprint.
The polished basalt slab creates a wide, shallow area of moving water before it reaches the naturally irregular outer edges.
The solid-stone plinth lifts the slab above the pebble area, giving the falling water more space and creating a more visible cascade.
The raised design gives this compact Miren more visual presence than a flatter babbling stone of a similar width.
The basalt plinth is more than a decorative addition. By lifting the slab above the surrounding pebble area, it creates a greater drop as water leaves the natural edges.
This makes the individual streams easier to see and enhances the gentle trickling sound as water falls back towards the concealed reservoir below.
Once decorative pebbles are arranged around the base, much of the plinth can be integrated into the surrounding landscape, allowing the broad slab to appear naturally raised above the surface.
Basalt is a dense volcanic stone with naturally occurring variations in shape, colour, markings and edge profile.
When dry, the stone displays softer grey and charcoal tones. Once water begins flowing, the basalt becomes considerably darker and richer, creating a striking contrast between the smooth polished upper surface and naturally rugged sides.
The broad slab provides plenty of surface area for the water to move across, creating constantly changing reflections before it reaches the irregular outer edge.
Exact shape, dimensions, markings, edge profile and colour will vary slightly between individual pieces. These natural differences are part of the character of genuine basalt.
The supplied 70cm heavy-duty reservoir is designed to be buried below ground, leaving only the basalt slab, stone plinth and your chosen decorative finish visible.
Choose a firm, level position with access to a suitable outdoor electrical supply.
Dig a suitable hole for the supplied 70cm heavy-duty reservoir.
Install the reservoir securely and level, with the upper edge slightly above the surrounding soil level.
Position the pump inside the reservoir and connect the water pipe through the drilled plinth to the slab above.
Position the heavy-duty galvanised steel support grid securely over the reservoir.
Carefully position the basalt plinth and slab centrally over the supported section of grid.
Position the supplied LED light to illuminate the moving water and wet basalt surface.
Cover the visible grid with decorative pebbles while retaining access through the grid hatch for pump maintenance.
Fill the reservoir and switch on the pump. Water spreads across the slab and cascades back into the hidden reservoir.
The Miren Basalt Slab & Plinth is supplied as a complete, self-contained recirculating water feature system.
Decorative pebbles are available separately, allowing you to completely conceal the reservoir and coordinate the finished installation with your garden.
At approximately 45–50cm across, this Miren remains easy to integrate into smaller patios, planted borders and gravel gardens.
The raised plinth gives it considerably more presence than a flat babbling stone of a similar diameter, while the approximately 21cm overall height makes the cascading water easier to appreciate from nearby seating areas.
Its combination of rugged natural edges and a highly polished upper surface allows it to work equally well within traditional planting or more contemporary landscaping.
Water travelling across the polished basalt deepens the colour of the stone and highlights its natural markings while creating changing reflections across the broad surface.
The supplied LED light illuminates the bubbling water and wet basalt, adding another dimension to the feature for evening enjoyment.
