Extra Large Babbling Basalt Water Feature

A substantial, low-profile natural stone water feature designed to bring the character of solid volcanic basalt into larger gardens and landscaped spaces.

At approximately 90cm across, the Miren Extra Large Babbling Basalt has considerably more presence than the smaller stones in the collection without relying on height. Its broad polished surface creates an expansive area of moving water, while the rugged natural perimeter keeps the feature firmly connected to the landscape around it.

Water rises gently through the centre of the stone, collects across the shallow dished surface and travels towards the irregular edges before cascading back into the concealed reservoir below.

Because every piece is formed from genuine natural basalt and individually finished, variations in shape, colour, markings and edge profile are part of the character of Miren.

The Extra Large Miren retains the simple babbling-water effect of the smaller stones but expands it across a much broader natural surface.

Approx. 90cm of natural basalt

The broad stone gives the feature enough presence for larger borders, lawns and landscaped spaces where a smaller fountain could become visually lost, while its low profile keeps the overall design understated.

02 / Broad Water Movement

Water travels across the stone

Rather than producing a high jet, water bubbles gently onto the shallow polished surface and spreads naturally towards the outer edge, creating multiple small cascades around the basalt.

No two Miren are exactly alike

Genuine volcanic stone brings natural variations in outline, markings, colour and texture, giving every Miren its own character rather than the repeated finish of a moulded water feature.

The Miren water effect

Water changes the character of the basalt.

The broad polished upper surface creates a shallow area of moving water rather than a conventional fountain jet.

As water spreads away from the centre, it darkens the basalt and reveals subtle variations within the natural stone before reaching the rugged perimeter and returning to the reservoir below.

The result is a calmer, more landscape-led water effect particularly suited to planting, gravel and natural stone garden schemes.

Natural basalt

Volcanic stone that becomes richer when wet.

Basalt is a dense natural stone formed from cooled volcanic material. Its darker colouring makes it particularly effective for water features because the appearance changes noticeably once the surface becomes wet.

Softer dry greys become deeper charcoal, black and warm brown tones, increasing the contrast between the polished upper surface and the naturally textured perimeter.

Dimensions are approximate. Natural variations in overall shape, thickness, markings, edge profile, colour and texture should be expected and are an intentional part of choosing genuine basalt.

Designed around the landscape

Greater presence without unnecessary height.

At approximately 90cm across but only around 10cm high, the Extra Large Miren creates impact through width rather than height.

This horizontal proportion helps the stone feel integrated into the surrounding garden rather than appearing as an object placed on top of it.

The working parts disappear beneath the garden.

The reservoir is installed below ground and covered by the supporting grid. Decorative pebbles can then conceal the installation, leaving the natural basalt and moving water as the visible elements.

Prepare the base

Choose a suitable position and prepare a firm, level area for the underground reservoir.

Install the reservoir

Position the reservoir below ground so the upper edge finishes at the appropriate garden level.

Connect the pump

Position the pump within the reservoir and connect the hose feeding the centre of the basalt.

Support the stone

Fit the heavy-duty support grid and make sure the structure is level and properly supported before positioning the basalt.

Position the basalt

Carefully position the stone over the outlet and check that it sits securely before completing the surrounding finish.

Finish with pebbles

Decorative stone can be used to conceal the grid and visually integrate the feature into the surrounding landscape.

Important — substantial natural stone. At approximately 100kg, the Extra Large Miren requires careful handling and a properly supported, level installation. Plan access and positioning before moving the stone into its final location.

Delivered kerbside by a specialist pallet courier, with tracking provided after dispatch. Larger items may arrive in a protective wooden crate, which will require a suitable pry bar or similar tool to open.
