Caldera Slate & Steel 90cm Column Water Feature

A 90cm architectural column combining two deliberately contrasting materials — rugged layered slate below and smooth polished steel above.

The lower section uses individual layers of dark natural slate, giving the water a textured, rippling path as it travels down the surface.

Above it, polished steel introduces a completely different character: cleaner, smoother and more reflective, allowing water to shimmer across the surface before reaching the slate below.

A separate LED uplighter is also included, positioned at the base of the feature to illuminate the full column from below after dark.

The irregular texture of natural slate sits directly beneath the cleaner, brighter finish of polished steel.

Water behaves differently across each material, creating smooth reflections over steel and more broken movement over slate.

LED uplighting

The separate spotlight illuminates the column from the bottom upwards, highlighting texture and reflection after dark.

One flow, two surfaces

The water changes character as it moves down the column.

Water emerges at the top and begins its journey over the polished steel section.

Here, the smooth surface creates a cleaner, more reflective flow with a noticeable shimmer as light catches the moving water.

As the water reaches the layered slate below, the character changes. The uneven stone breaks the flow into smaller channels, producing more texture, movement and a pronounced rippling effect.

Hidden return Water returns to the concealed reservoir and is continuously reused.

Natural Layered Slate

The darker lower section uses pieces of natural slate with visible layering and an uneven surface. Water catches each ridge differently, creating broken reflections and a more organic rippling effect.

Polished Steel

The upper section introduces a much smoother, brighter finish. Its clean surface reflects light more strongly and gives the flowing water a sharper, contemporary appearance.

The column stands approximately 90cm high while measuring only around 22cm across.

This tall, narrow proportion gives the feature significant vertical presence without the wide footprint associated with larger bowls, spheres or water walls.

Separate LED uplighter

Light the entire column from the ground upwards.

By day

Natural light emphasises the difference between dark layered slate and the brighter polished steel, while moving water adds reflections across both surfaces.

After dark

The supplied LED spotlight sits separately at the base rather than inside the top of the feature. Used as an uplighter, it throws light vertically across the slate, steel and moving water.

Strong contemporary contrast

Particularly effective where different landscape materials meet.

Because this Caldera already combines natural stone and steel, it works particularly well in schemes that mix hard landscaping with softer planting.

Dark slate relates naturally to gravel, stone and shadowed planting, while the polished steel can pick up reflections from paving, glass, lighting and surrounding architecture.

Its tall, slim shape also makes it useful where horizontal landscaping needs a stronger vertical counterpoint.

Concealed in-ground installation

Keep the reservoir hidden and the dual-material column fully visible.

The feature is supplied with a 66cm heavy-duty pebble pool and support grid, allowing the working water system to sit below the finished garden surface.

Choose the position

Select a firm, level area with suitable access for the supplied pump and lighting.

Excavate

Prepare the opening required for the supplied 66cm diameter heavy-duty pebble pool.

Level the reservoir

Install the pool securely and ensure it sits level below the finished landscape surface.

Install the pump

Position the supplied pump inside the reservoir and connect the water feed to the column.

Fit the grid

Position the supplied heavy-duty support grid securely over the reservoir.

Position the feature

Carefully centre and level the 90cm slate and steel column.

Place the uplighter

Position the separate LED spotlight at the base so it illuminates the column from below.

Fill & enjoy

Fill the reservoir and start the pump. Water continuously circulates over both surfaces and returns below.

No permanent water supply required The Caldera uses a self-contained recirculating water system, so no permanent plumbing connection is required. The included pump is supplied with a 10m cable. Periodically top up the reservoir to replace water naturally lost through evaporation and splash.
