Miren Babbling Basalt & Plinth Water Feature

A raised natural basalt fountain combining our compact Miren Babbling Basalt with a matching solid-stone plinth.

At approximately 40–50cm across, the polished basalt stone is raised around 10cm above the surrounding pebble area, creating a more visible cascade and giving the feature greater presence within the garden.

Water bubbles gently from the centre of the polished, dished surface before spreading across the stone and cascading over its rugged natural edges. The additional height creates a greater water drop than the standard ground-level Miren, making the falling water easier to see and producing a more noticeable trickling sound.

Both the fountain stone and supporting plinth are made from genuine natural basalt, so each feature has its own individual shape, colour, markings and natural edge profile.

The compact Miren water effect with greater height and visibility.

The addition of a matching basalt plinth changes the character of the standard Miren without dramatically increasing its footprint.

01 / RAISED DESIGN

More presence in the garden

The 10cm basalt plinth raises the fountain above the surrounding pebble area, increasing the overall natural stone height to approximately 18cm.

02 / GREATER WATER DROP

A more visible cascade

Raising the stone creates more space beneath the rugged edge, making the individual streams of falling water easier to see.

03 / MORE WATER SOUND

A stronger natural trickle

The increased drop produces a slightly more noticeable trickling sound as water falls from the basalt towards the pebbles below.

Raised for a better water effect

More height changes the way you see and hear the water.

On the standard Miren, the stone sits close to the surrounding pebble level. Adding the basalt plinth lifts the fountain around 10cm higher.

Water still bubbles gently into the centre and spreads across the polished dished surface, but the increased drop allows the cascades to remain visible for longer as they fall from the edge.

The extra height also gives the water more distance to fall, creating a more noticeable natural trickling sound while retaining the calm character of the original Miren.

Genuine natural basalt

Two pieces of natural stone. No two sets exactly alike.

Both the fountain and plinth are made from genuine natural basalt and individually finished rather than moulded to a repeated shape.

When dry, the basalt displays softer charcoal, grey and subtle brown tones. Once wet, the stone becomes noticeably darker and richer, increasing the contrast between the polished upper surface and the rugged natural edges.

Please note

Exact shape, dimensions, markings, edge profile and colour will vary slightly between individual fountain stones and plinths. These natural variations are part of the character of Miren.

Seamless in-ground installation

Conceal the reservoir beneath the finished garden.

The supplied 60cm pebble pool is designed to be buried below ground, leaving only the natural basalt fountain, matching stone plinth and your chosen decorative finish visible.

Prepare

Choose a firm, level position with access to a suitable outdoor electrical supply.

Excavate

Dig a suitable hole for the supplied 60cm heavy-duty pebble pool.

Position

Install the reservoir securely and level, with the upper edge slightly above the surrounding soil level.

Install the pump

Position the pump inside the reservoir and feed the water pipe through the drilled basalt plinth.

Fit the grid

Position the heavy-duty galvanised steel support grid securely over the pebble pool.

Position the plinth

Place the drilled natural basalt plinth centrally over the supported area.

Position the fountain

Carefully place the babbling basalt stone on top of the plinth and connect the water pipe.

Finish

Cover the visible grid with decorative pebbles while retaining access to the pump for maintenance.

Fill & enjoy

Fill the reservoir and switch on the pump. Water bubbles across the stone before cascading over the raised natural edges.

At approximately 40–50cm across, the fountain remains compact enough for patios, borders and smaller landscaped areas.

Adding the matching basalt plinth increases the overall stone height to approximately 18cm, allowing the water effect to sit more clearly above surrounding planting and decorative gravel.

Once the reservoir and support grid are concealed, the feature can appear as though the natural basalt and flowing water have been incorporated directly into the landscape.
