Caldera Babbling Basalt Polished Dished Top Water Feature

A substantial piece of natural basalt with a polished dished top and rugged outer surface, creating a water feature where refined stone meets raw volcanic character.

Measuring approximately 40–45cm across and around 20cm high, this Caldera has a broad, low-profile form rather than the tall proportions of a traditional column.

Water bubbles gently into the polished dished top before spreading across the smooth stone and cascading over the edge onto the more rustic sides below.

Each piece is formed from genuine natural basalt, so shape, texture and colour vary from one feature to another. Rich charcoal, black and brown tones become noticeably deeper as water moves across the stone.

The combination of a smooth polished top and rugged basalt exterior creates a different character to both conventional babbling boulders and uniform polished stone features.

Natural variations in shape, colour and texture ensure that every Caldera has its own individual appearance.

The dished-top water effect

Water gathers above before spilling over the natural stone.

Water rises through the basalt and gently enters the polished dish formed into the upper surface.

The shallow dished area allows the water to spread and move across the smooth stone before reaching the outer edge.

From there it cascades over the more irregular basalt sides, creating a contrast between the calmer movement above and the broken, textured flow below.

Low, broad natural proportions

More stone mass than height.

Unlike the taller Caldera columns, this basalt design sits relatively low to the ground at around 20cm high.

Its substantial 40–45cm natural diameter and approximately 50kg weight give it a grounded, solid presence that works particularly well within gravel, stone and planting.

Solid natural basalt

Dark volcanic stone with genuine variation in every piece.

Basalt is naturally dark and substantial, with charcoal, black and earthy brown tones running through the stone.

The contrast between the polished upper surface and more rustic sides allows the same piece of basalt to display two very different textures.

Once wet, the darker tones intensify and the differences in surface texture become even more visible.

Each feature is genuinely individual

Because the feature is formed from natural basalt, exact diameter, shape, edge profile, texture and colour will vary. The dimensions given are therefore approximate rather than a promise of an identical manufactured form.

LED lighting included

Natural basalt by day, illuminated water after dark.

By day

Moving water deepens the black and brown basalt tones while highlighting the contrast between the polished dish and more rugged natural sides.

After dark

The included LED adds light to the moving water, creating an additional focal point and allowing the feature to remain visually effective into the evening.

Natural stone positioning

Particularly effective where you want the feature to feel part of the landscape.

The low profile and irregular natural stone character make this Caldera particularly suitable for spaces where a tall architectural column would feel too formal.

It can sit amongst planting, within gravel, beside a terrace or as part of a broader arrangement of natural stone features.

Concealed in-ground installation

Hide the reservoir so the basalt appears naturally positioned within the garden.

The supplied 66cm diameter heavy-duty pebble pool sits below the finished surface, allowing the natural stone and water effect to remain the visible focus.

Choose the position

Select a firm, level location with suitable access for the pump and lighting.

Excavate

Prepare the opening required for the supplied 66cm diameter heavy-duty pebble pool.

Level the reservoir

Install the reservoir securely and ensure it sits level below the finished surface.

Install the pump

Position the supplied pump inside the reservoir and connect the water feed to the basalt feature.

Prepare the support

Ensure the support is stable and appropriate for the approximately 50kg natural stone feature.

Position the basalt

Carefully centre the feature and ensure the polished dished surface is correctly positioned.

Finish the surface

Conceal the reservoir with decorative pebbles while retaining suitable access for maintenance.

Fill & enjoy

Fill the reservoir and start the pump. Water bubbles into the polished dish before flowing back to the reservoir below.

No permanent water supply required This Caldera uses a self-contained recirculating water system, so no permanent plumbing connection is required. The supplied pump includes a 10m cable. Simply top up the reservoir periodically to replace water naturally lost through evaporation and splash.

Basalt transformed by water

The darker the stone becomes, the stronger its natural character appears.

When dry

The basalt shows softer charcoal, black and earthy brown tones, with the polished upper section visibly contrasting against the rougher sides.

When wet

The colours deepen considerably, bringing richer black and brown tones forward while water adds reflections to the polished dish and highlights the rugged exterior texture.
