BOOK A CONSULTATIONA broad, generously proportioned terracotta fountain with a deeply textured amber glaze and a distinctly organic surface.
Measuring approximately 60cm high and 70cm across, the Rhodes has a lower, broader profile than the taller Sienna, giving it a strong visual presence without relying on height.
Its deeply pitted surface and mottled amber-brown glaze create a deliberately tactile appearance, with variations of russet, brown and warmer earthy tones across the pot.
Water bubbles gently from the centre before spilling over the rim and travelling down the textured exterior. As the surface becomes wet, the glaze deepens and the irregular texture catches the moving water differently across the pot.
The Rhodes has a warmer, more tactile character than a smooth glazed pot, with its deeply textured exterior giving moving water more surface detail to interact with.
Its wide rounded form gives the Rhodes real visual weight on patios, terraces and within larger planting schemes.
The deeply pitted finish gives the pot a tactile character and creates subtle variations in the way water travels down the exterior.
The mottled glaze brings together warm earthy colours that sit particularly naturally alongside planting, timber, gravel and stone.
Water bubbles softly from the centre of the Rhodes before reaching the rim and flowing down the outside of the pot.
The textured exterior gives the water numerous small routes to follow, so the flow isn't perfectly uniform. Instead, individual streams move across the pitted surface before returning to the concealed reservoir below.
This keeps the water effect calm and understated while allowing the ceramic itself to remain the main visual focus.
The Rhodes combines a mottled amber and brown glaze with a deeply textured terracotta surface.
Rather than aiming for a perfectly smooth, identical finish, the hand-finishing process allows subtle differences in glaze tone and texture to remain visible.
Once wet, the darker recesses and raised areas become more pronounced, giving the surface additional depth and movement.
Individual variation in glaze tone and surface texture is expected. These differences are part of the appeal of a hand-finished ceramic fountain.
The terracotta body is wood-fired at approximately 1000ยฐC, creating a dense ceramic form with frost-resistant properties.
The firing and hand-finishing process also contributes to the tonal variation within the glaze, ensuring that the finished surface retains an individual character.
The Rhodes is supplied with a heavy-duty 90cm diameter x 36cm high reservoir and support grid, allowing the working parts of the fountain to disappear beneath the finished garden surface.
Choose a firm, level position with access to a suitable outdoor electrical supply.
Prepare a suitable opening for the supplied 90 ร 36cm reservoir.
Install the heavy-duty reservoir securely and level.
Position the mains-powered pump inside the reservoir and connect the required plumbing.
Position the supplied heavy-duty support grid securely over the reservoir.
Carefully position the ceramic fountain centrally over the supported area.
Conceal the visible grid with your chosen decorative finish while retaining access for maintenance.
Fill the reservoir and switch on the pump. Water flows over the pot and continuously returns to the concealed reservoir.
At approximately 70cm in diameter, the Rhodes has a generous footprint and a strong horizontal presence.
Its 60cm height keeps the design relatively grounded, making it particularly effective where you want a substantial focal point without introducing a tall vertical feature.
The warm glaze and textured exterior work especially well alongside natural planting, gravel, stone and timber.
The wood-fired ceramic has frost-resistant properties, but we recommend draining the fountain during freezing conditions as an additional precaution.
Preventing water from freezing within the fountain or plumbing reduces unnecessary pressure on the ceramic and helps protect the complete water system during prolonged cold weather.
Explore the complete Aqua Moda Ceramic collection, from the warm, deeply textured surface of Rhodes to the taller Sienna and the cooler Mediterranean-inspired finishes of Santorini and Aegean.
Each combines generous proportions, hand-finished ceramic and gentle flowing water to create a substantial garden focal point.
Our water feature specialists can help you compare the Ceramic range, judge scale and positioning and plan the reservoir installation and surrounding finish.
