WALL WATER FEATURES   /   ARCHITECTURAL GARDEN DESIGN

Wall Water Features

A hand-selected collection of fountains chosen for positioning against or close to walls, fences and garden boundaries.

Use them to disguise an unattractive boundary, introduce height to a patio or create architectural divisions between different areas of the garden. Sheltered positioning can also help protect taller water walls from wind disturbance and excessive splash.

WHY POSITION A FOUNTAIN AGAINST A WALL?

Turn the edge of the garden into a design feature.

Walls and boundaries are often underused spaces. A vertical fountain can introduce movement, height and sound without taking over the centre of the garden.

01   SHELTER

Help Protect Tall Features From Wind

Positioning a large water wall in a more secluded area can reduce wind disturbance to the water flow and help minimise unwanted spray away from the reservoir.

02   CONCEAL

Hide an Unsightly Wall or Fence

A tall fountain draws attention away from plain fencing, brickwork or rendered boundaries and gives the eye something more attractive to focus on.

03   DIVIDE

Create Zones Within the Garden

Use one feature as a focal point or repeat matching steel panels to separate seating, dining, lawn and planting areas with a more architectural effect.

POSITIONING TALL WATER WALLS

Sheltered locations generally work better.

Tall exposed water walls such as Aqua Moda Staffora move water over a large vertical surface. In windy conditions, droplets can be blown away from the panel instead of returning cleanly to the reservoir.

AVOID THE MOST EXPOSED POSITIONA highly exposed garden location can increase splash and disturb the sheet of water travelling down the feature.
USE BOUNDARIES AS SHELTERA wall, fence or sheltered courtyard can reduce direct wind exposure while also creating a stronger visual backdrop.
ALLOW FOR SPLASHAll open water features can splash. Larger water walls should be positioned where occasional droplets will not cause problems.

SINGLE, PAIRED OR REPEATED

Use vertical water features as part of the garden architecture.

The same design can create a very different effect depending on whether it is installed alone, as a pair or repeated across a larger space.

ONE FEATURE

Create a clear focal point.

Use a single vertical fountain centrally against a wall, at the end of a sight line or beside a seating area to give the garden one strong visual destination.

A PAIR

Add symmetry and structure.

Two matching fountains can frame a doorway, garden seat, planter arrangement or central view and work particularly well in more formal layouts.

MULTIPLE FEATURES

Create an architectural water screen.

Repeat matching steel panels to form a stronger division between zones. Several water walls can begin to act like a steel garden wall, with moving water adding sound and movement.

WHERE WALL WATER FEATURES WORK WELL

Use height where floor space is limited.

Vertical designs create impact without requiring the footprint of a conventional large fountain.

Courtyards

Enclosed spaces often provide useful shelter while a tall feature introduces movement without using much floor area.

Patios

Use a vertical fountain along the edge of a patio to create a backdrop to outdoor seating or dining.

Garden Boundaries

Position against fencing, brickwork or render to soften an otherwise plain or unattractive boundary.

Large Gardens

Use repeated features to divide open space into smaller zones without building a completely solid wall.

HAND-SELECTED FOR WALL POSITIONING

Not every design physically attaches to a wall.

This collection includes both wall-style fountains and freestanding designs whose shape, proportions and water effect make them particularly suited to installation close to a boundary.

TALL & ARCHITECTURAL

Staffora, Serio and vertical steel designs

Choose taller contemporary pieces when you want to create height, make a strong focal point or use repeated panels as part of the architecture of the garden.

COMPACT & SPACE EFFICIENT

Wall-style fountains for smaller areas

More compact vertical fountains work well in courtyards, narrow gardens and smaller patios where a wide freestanding fountain would occupy too much usable space.

DESIGN WITH THE BOUNDARY

Use water to turn a wall, fence or garden edge into a feature.

Choose a single fountain for a focal point, a pair for symmetry or repeat matching water walls to divide larger spaces and create a stronger architectural statement.
